PHASES AND WORKS TO DEVELOP

The phases and works developed in Upp Games are focused on meeting the specific needs of the construction industry: the high rates of labour accidents, especially in works at height, and the lack of innovative training methodologies in labour risks prevention, helping to decrease the workers’ accident rate.

The project brings together innovative didactic methodologies with new chances given by technologies, through an app which use helps to tackle training challenges (improving the specialized provided training and the attractiveness of the sector) and the innovation. Each phase of the project try to obtain results reflected in products, which try to achieve the final objective: the improvement of basic Health and Safety skills on Works at height.

SET OF LEARNING OUTCOMES ON PREVENTION OF HAZARDS

Fundación Laboral de la Construcción, (January, 2018 – Jun, 2018) – Handy guide

The first result of the project is a Handy guide obtained from four activities with the aim to complete the information about the learning outcomes (related to knowledge, skills and competences).

  • For the fieldwork is carried out: a focus group, in each partner country, with Health and Safety experts to establish priorities regarding risks and preventive measures in work at height; and an on-line survey for trainers and VET students, to complete the information of the groups.
  • Analysis of results from the online surveys at national level and at transnational level.
  • Development of the Handy guide that collects the main learning outcomes, to support the training processes.
  • Validation of the Guide by the National Advisory Group (NAG) from a technical and pedagogical point of view.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE APP WITH SERIOUS GAMES

Open Universiteit (OUNL), (July, 2018 – December, 2018) – App with serious games

During this phase an app is developed from three activities that establish the content of the application:

  • Definition of mini scenarios from the educational and training perspective.
  • Technical perspective (technical feasibility), that is, an evaluation of the proposed mini scenarios according to technical possibilities.
  • Conceptual design of the scenarios adding the pedagogical and technological aspects.

GUIDE FOR TRAINERS: PEDAGOGICAL USE

Centro Edile Andrea Palladio (CEAP), (December, 2018 – March, 2019) – Guide for trainers

During the third phase, we design a Guide for Trainers that allows us to develop, adapt and/or improve the serious games of the app to the training process, especially in the case of low-qualified students in terms of Health and Safety in works at height.

EXPERIMENTATION AND EXTERNAL VALIDATION

Institut de Formation Sectoriel du Bâtiment (IFSB), (April, 2019 – September, 2019) –  Validation report

In the fourth phase, three activities are carried out with the aim of completing the process of experimentation and validation, both of the app and of the Guide for Trainers, from a technical, pedagogical and technological point of view:

  • Preparation and development of the pilot experience → with construction industry trainees and trainers per country.
  • Pedagogical validation → with trainees who value the App and its usability as a learning resource.
  • Technical and technological validation → using expert meetings and a questionnaire that evaluates the App and the Guide.

STANDARD RECOGNITION OF THE LEARNING OUTCOMES

Chamber of Construction and Building Materials Industry of Slovenia (WHKT), (October, 2017 – September, 2019) – Roadmap on the accreditation process

For the fifth and final phase of the project, several activities are carried out:

  • Creation of a National Advisory Group (NAG) → Each group is made up of experts, VET institutions members, social agents, professional associations, experts in migrants, construction industry experts, etc.
  • Creation of a Technical Advisory Group (TAG) → Each partner sets up a group of trainers and trainees, who have participate in any process related to labour risks prevention in construction industry.
  • Development of proposals for the accreditation and recognition of the training using European tools (EQF and ECVET).

Outcomes

  1. Increased innovation in the sector through ICT-based teaching methods.
  2. Increased transparency and mutual trust of VET.
  3. Permanent training on labour risks prevention in works at height.
  4. Reinforcement of safe skills in the field of Health and Safety.
  5. Creation of pedagogical tools from the construction industry.
  6. Development of a Handy guide for trainers.
  7. Creation of an App with serious games.
  8. Draft a validation report of pedagogical tools.
  9. Creation of a roadmap on the accreditation process.
