PHASES AND WORKS TO DEVELOP

The european project “VRoad. Virtual Reality applied to roadwork training in European construction industry” aims to promote the participation of low-skilled professionals from the construction sector in Vocational Education and Training (VET) training actions in road works. The initiative presents an attractive training offer for the construction sector based on open learning and innovative practices in the digital area, and introduces a systematic approach to the professional development of VET teachers. It also seeks to establish the standars and necessary steps to recognize the content of the proposed training system,in accordance with the European framework.

With this background, VRoad is working on developing a series of training elements:

Set of learning outcomes on Conservation and Operation of Roads

Development of a Handy Guide that includes the knowledge, skills and competences in the Conservation and Operation of Roads field that the professionals of the sector should have, with the aim of guaranteeing the quality and safety of the work.

VRoad training system

Design of a Virtual Reality system (VRoad) which include virtual scenarios acting as support for trainers in the teaching-learning process and as a training system for trainees regarding risk prevention and preventive measures related to roadwork. Three virtual scenarios will be developed:

  1. Lane closure.
  2. Guardrail and traffic signs reparation.
  3. Protocol in case of accident, which will underpin the training process for the acquisition of skills that minimize risks impact when working on roads.

The trainee by using Virtual Reality glasses will be totally immersed in a virtual reality, which he/she will be able to interact with through Virtual Reality gloves, conducting activities as happened in real reality

VRoad Pedagogical and Technological Exploitation Guide

Didactic guide for VET trainers that will allow them to manage the VRoad and get the most of the training system. The Guide will have a dual perspective:

  1. A pedagogical orientation which will enable trainers to acquire full exploitation of the generated resources in the project.
  2. A technological orientation to manage the system properly.

Pilot experience and validation of VRoad

Development of an experimentation and external validation process with the participation of experts, VET trainers and VET trainees, which ensures validity, adequacy, and usability of the VRoad system and the Guide for trainers.

Standard recognition of the Learning outcomes

Establishment of a Roadmap to ensure the value and impact of the training content (and of the project as a whole), in order to assure the acquirement of new skills with the training system designed, through an action plan to bring on the accreditation thereof.

Outcomes

1. Set of learning outcomes on roadwork

2. VRoad training system

3. Guide for trainers: pedagogical use and technological exploitation of VRoad

4. Experimentation and external validation: Pilot experience and validation of VRoad

5. Standar Recognition of the Learning outcomes
